Unshakable

Remaining “Unshakable” is the key to fitness and financial success.

Definition: Unshakable – of a belief, feeling, or opinion that is strongly felt and unable to be changed. Synonyms: Unwavering, inflexible, unflappable

Today is the release of “Unshakable”. A book by one of my greatest and most profound mentors, Tony Robbins. https://www.amazon.com/Unshakeable-Your-Financial-Freedom-Playbook/dp/1501164589/ref=pd_sbs_14_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=HBJD9NFPAR4TD61JF39Z

Unshakable is a step-by-step playbook, taking you on a journey to transform your financial life and accelerate your path to financial freedom. No matter your salary, your stage of life, or when you started, this book will provide the tools to help you achieve your financial goals more rapidly than you ever thought possible.

Why am I writing about a book that’s based on helping to build financial success? Well because I believe your financial success is no different than your success in health and fitness. Tony Robbins believes that “80% of success is psychology and 20% is mechanics”. That’s right you read correct. It’s more about what you believe in and your confidence in your success than it is about the latest fitness trend. I get asked the question all the time, “What is your favorite exercise or fitness program Steve?” And my answer to this question always is, “The one you do over and over again.” Yes, there are absolutely some exercises and programs that are better than others, but to get results you have to be “Unshakable” in your pursuit to master and excel. And that my friends comes with repetition of execution.

I’ve been to over a 1/2 dozen Tony Robbins seminars including UPW four times, Business Mastery and Leadership Academy. My first experience attending his seminars was 10 years ago with the intent to prepare myself when I opened my health and fitness studio, Steve Jordan Acceleration here in Los Angeles. But to my surprise I didn’t get specific tools to help me grow my business or to be successful. However, I did absorb a wealth of knowledge to improve the quality of my life to be better able to serve and raise my standards. I highly recommend anyone to attend his conferences. I’ve enrolled and enlisted over a dozen friends and client’s and not one of them was disappointed with their experience. http://www.tonyrobbins.com

I’ve already purchased and downloaded this book on http://www.audibles.com and I am eager to listen to it. I am excited to share with you some of the findings and results I gain. I know it seems off the wall for me to be recommending reading a book on financial success when your primary challenges and motivations lie in health and fitness. But I promise you that you’ll find meaningful and useful information that will affect you to be “Unshakable” and give you a better chance of having success in all areas of your life including your health and fitness.

Enjoy the read or listen and let this community know how it has impacted you.

Bill Paxton – actor, husband, father and friend

Bill Paxton

I write this blog with a heavy heart for the loss of passionate actor and a friend to my wife and I. Bill passed on Feb 25th from a stroke resulting from complications after heart surgery on February 14th. He leaves behind his beloved wife Louise, son James and daughter Lydia.

I first became familiar with Bill in the movie “Weird Science” back in the 80’s where he played Chet, a jerk older brother who got turned into a “blob” for his abusive behavior to his younger brother and friend. But he was anything but a jerk in real life! Bill was best known for his outstanding performances in Titanic, Apollo 13, Aliens and Edge of tomorrow. He recently had a starring role in TV drama series called Training Day.

Bill was and is more to me than just a great actor. Bill came into my life when I met my beautiful wife Yuki. Yuki works at a local sushi restaurant, Matsumoto http://www.matsumoto-restaurant.com where Bill, his family and coworkers frequented on a weekly basis, sometimes 2x a week. Bill became more than just a customer to Yuki. He became a friend, someone who genuinely cared about Yuki’s well-being. They shared laughs, stories and the affection of amazing sushi and sake. He was not only genuinely nice to Yuki, but he also was always gracious and friendly to the patrons of the restaurant who recognized him. He offered to take selfies with them, he made conversation and just made everyone feel comfortable being around him.

I would love when Yuki would come home from work to tell me the stories about Bill that evening. He would walk into the restaurant and the first thing he would say out loud was, “Hey Yuki!” She would stop what she was doing,  go over, give him a hug and a kiss kiss on each cheek.

I had the great fortune to meet Bill one evening at the restaurant when Yuki and I decided to dine there. Bill and his family came in and were seated next to us. He barely recognized Yuki because Yuki was not wearing her work uniform and was dressed in regular street clothes. When Yuki said, “Hello Bill!”. He said, “Yuki!, Wow you look amazing! I barely recognized you.” Then Yuki introduced me to him and his family as her husband. It was the first time Bill got to meet formally meet me after he learned about our marriage several months early. He was so thoughtful and kind. He gave each of us his blessing in marriage, with some friendly advise. His wife Louise and I hand several minutes of meaningful conversation while he and Yuki talked. We thoroughly enjoyed the their company and presence during our dinner.

After this evening, Bill told Yuki several times how great of a couple we were and how happy he was for her that we found each other. After that evening I only had several other short interactions with Bill. However, his impact on me and us as husband and wife was larger than he could have known. Yuki and I even gave it great thought in asking Bill to be our marriage officiant for our party.

The last time Yuki saw Bill was a few days before his scheduled heart surgery. It was a busy night at the restaurant, but Bill made sure that Yuki was aware he was not going to be back for a few months since he’d be recovering. And his last words to Yuki were, “Yuki please think of me on Valentines Day!”

Bill if you could here me or if you can somehow read the words on this computer screen I’d like you to know that Yuki and I will do more than just think of you on Valentines Day! We will pay tribute to your life, your career and for the impact you made our lives. We are both deeply saddened for your loss and will miss you greatly.

I’d like to send strength and support to Bill’s family during this challenging time. And equally as important, I’d like to send all my love to family, friends, client’s and acquaintances who read this. Please give someone you love today a hug, a call to say hello or tell them that you love them. Because you never know when life might be cut short.

God Bless,

Steve and Yuki

Fuel Your Hope

Sunshine and rainbows coming out your @$$ is only in fairytales.

Almost every day I read, listen or watch something that helps me to keep a positive attitude. I don’t wake up naturally with sunshine and rainbows gleaming out of my you know what….@$$!  I also have to work at staying positive, but it has and is more natural for me today then it ever has been because I never give up on it and it really is at the core of who I am.  Happy, positive, outgoing and exuberant about life.

But occasionally, even sometimes daily negative voices that want to put myself down, that want to minimize my abilities or diminish my successes is always knocking on the door in my mind. But I do my best to keep that door locked to keep out that negative self talk. The same way you lock your door to your home at night to keep out anyone who might want to steal, rob or harm you.

You have everything within you now to have and to do more in life. Think about it for minute. What holds you back from living your life to the fullest? Maybe your not where you want to be in your career yet. You thought you were going to get that promotion or raise and you didn’t.  Or you haven’t lost the weight you’ve been trying to lose. Maybe you’re single or recently got divorced, but really want to be in a stable relationship. If you focus on these temporary circumstances, it opens the door to negativity and limits your opportunities to get what you really desire in life.

In a few days we’ll be watching the most important awards ceremony for actors and entertainers called the Oscars. When we see these “Stars”, many who I’ve  had the honor and privilege to coach, you’ll see them only in a positive manor. The “glow” that attracts you and everyone else in the world to them on the biggest night of the year in their career or lives is often temporary. Many and if not all of them have the same negative voices that creep into their minds that limit them from being, having and doing more. However, I know without a shadow of doubt all of them have found ways to overcome and fill their minds with only the positive thoughts that helped get them to this outstanding place professionally.

In my experiences working with these “Stars”, I’ve seen and heard the other side of their stories. Some of them have been homeless, broke and out of luck. And those experiences and negative emotions have a way of creeping back in to their minds, even after they have the success. So in my coaching and obviously at the right time  I would say them just like this, “You are perfect and whole today and always. You have and possess everything you need to be your best self. And you or I will not settle for less! So let’s get going and move it out! Are you with me?!” And they would say, “Yes!” But I often have to repeat this mantra over and over again within a session or during the life of our coaching relationship to keep reinforcing the positive emotion and thoughts.

The “Stars” that I’ve trained throughout my career are no different than you or I. We all are human. We all hurt. We all want to be loved. We all have fears. It’s just that some of us know how to stop those negative thoughts at the door of our minds and keep finding coaches, mentors, books, podcasts, speakers, events or other resources to motivate and/or inspire us to be better.

So my hope and wish is that I did that for you today with this blog. This is what I  tell my client’s when they walk into my private training studio on day one and what I am telling you,

“For the 1/2 hr or 1 hr that I work with you, we are going to use exercise for the mind and body coaching. The results don’t happen in here. The results happen when you walk out that door and play the game of life for the additional 23 hrs of the day or until I see you next. In our sessions you’ll learn the processes to make better decisions to transform your mind and body. And that’s how we roll! Are you with me?” Great!

Please let this blog give you the reassurance that you’re not alone. Yes, you are absolutely unique and that’s the beauty in each of us, but you’re not that different than the rest of us.

Here are my 3 resources that I use daily to help me stay at the top of my game that hope you too might find valuable to “Fuel Your Hope.”

To fueling your hope,

Sleep Your Way To Being Healthy and Fit

Lullaby, and good night, in the skies stars are bright!

Where did I put my car keys? I can’t believe I forgot my gym clothes this morning! Hmmm what was it I needed to do? I feel terrible now that I ate those donuts! Am I losing my mind? You might hear yourself ask these questions or say these disempowering statements if your not getting enough sleep.

Research shows that if you don’t get enough sleep, 7-8 hours a night, you have a greater possibility of forgetting things that you might not otherwise. And more importantly you’ll be more likely to make bad decisions on eating properly or exercising, keeping you from reaching your goals of being healthy and fit.

According to Dr Avidan at UCLA Sleep Disorder Center your brain uses the time to organize memories, make repairs hormonally, repair your body physically  and metabolize the harmful neurotoxins that can cause brain diseases. Literally without enough sleep your mind and body can not go through it’s rebooting process that will keep you healthy and fit for life.

Almost 70 million adults in the United States have problems sleeping and that can and does cause a lot of trouble including increasing the risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, metabolic disease, depression and anxiety. And one of the top 5 reasons for automobile accidents is being tired from lack of sleep.

Contrary to popular belief you can not make up for lost sleep. So don’t think that you’re going to catch up on your Zzz’s this weekend or call out of work sick if you’re not getting adequate sleep. Nope! You need to be consistent and follow the natural circadian sleep wake cycle for humans which is 10pm-6am, give or take 30 minutes. You wouldn’t think twice about keeping your new born child awake for too long. No way! So please don’t do that to yourself! Get to bed on time and you’ll have a better chance at having optimal health and fitness.

Here are some foolproof techniques to help you “Sleep Your Way To Being Healthy and Fit.”

  1. Stick to a schedule. In bed by 10 or 10:30pm at the latest and wake up at 6 or 6:30am when the sun is rising.
  2. Keep lights on low using dimmers after 8pm or use candles because most lights used to illuminate homes trick your brain into thinking its daytime.
  3. Limit  TV, computer, Ipad, smartphone use after 8pm for the same reasons as above
  4. Make sure your bedroom is dark, quiet, clean and cozy.
  5. Avoid exercising after 630pm.
  6. Avoid having large meals in the evening. If you’re hungry have a light snack or short glass of water.
  7. Read a good book or magazine without suspenseful plots.
  8. Take a warm bath or hot shower to relax.
  9. Avoid caffeine after 2pm.
  10. Avoid alcohol intake.

Sweet dreams!!!

“Egg-Which”

Open Faced Egg-Which

There are more 100,000’s books on diets and cookbooks to choose from. It can be confusing and challenging to pick the right one for your likes and goals. However, eating the right foods is essential to have optimal health and fitness. So where do you begin? I’ve got a suggestion.

Eating for a healthy and fit lifestyle doesn’t require a lot of money, secrets of hollywood celebrity dietitians or enduring a grueling restrictive diet that even a sadist would find impossible. It’s true what they say, “What seems too good to be true usually is.” Eating for health and fitness means listening to that little voice inside your head that knows what healthy and fit foods generally look like. Their fresh, recognizable in nature and colorful and they are not prepackaged, processed or have a long shelf life. One of my favorite quotes I impart on my client’s that will make this easy to remember is: “If it wasn’t here 500 years ago, don’t consume it!” 500 years ago our ancestors relied on the foods from “mother earth”, the ocean, the sun and rain.

This advise may not fit so well with our on demand culture today, where we want results now and instant gratification be it when we want to eat or weight loss, but it’s without question a necessity if you want a healthy and fit program that works for the long run. That means a diet that’s nutritious and delicious, but one that will take a bit of planning and commitment from you. “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!” Another one of my favorite quotes.

So here’s a sample meal that I made for myself with some simple ingredients I had in the refrigerator. You can use some, all of or even substitute something else for your liking.

I call it “Egg-Which”.

Total Calories per “Egg-Which”:

With Dave’s Killer Bread 21 Grain 60 Calorie: 140-155

With Canyon Bakehouse Gluten Free: 155-170

Enjoy this and other healthy and fit foods! You’re one meal away from feeling and looking great!
