Refuel Your Body With Water In The Morning

I get the question, “What do you eat or drink in the monring?” probably more than any other health and fitness question. I think the reason why is because subconsciously or consciously we know that “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” Come on, we’ve been hearing that for decades and if I were alive for over 100 years, probably centuries. It really is the most important meal of the day so pay attention to what I am about to say, follow these simple instructions and change your life with this foolproof routine.

I am going to paint a picture for you that has nothing to do with food or beverages to help get my simple point across and really drive this home. You wake up in the morning and you get yourself prepared to go to work. You get into you gasoline or electric car to find the tank or charge is almost empty. What’s the first thing you think of? Yes. “I have to get gas or I have to give this a quick charge  to get to work.” and/or “I need to be more mindful and plan better so that my car has a full tank of gas or charge to avoid stress.” Either one of these answers would be legitimate, and preferably the latter.

You came up with a rational answer because your “WHY?” was big enough to make you come up with a clear and concise answer to a challenge/problem that creates a ritual, habit or practice. You will not be perfect and you’ll mess up here and there, but that doesn’t stop you from implementing this because you know the benefits out way the negatives.

So back to the question, “What do you eat or drink first thing in the morning?” My answer ALWAYS is “WATER”. H20 baby! Our bodies dehydrate and lose water in our sleep. Research shows that you can burn up to 500 calories in an 8 hr sleep cycle and lose up to an average of 1lb of water weight. So technically you body and cells are on empty or do not have a full charge when you wake up, just like the car being empty of fuel in my previous example. And water makes up to 75% of fluids in your body.

My question to you is, “Why wouldn’t you fuel up your body in the morning with water like you’d fuel up your car if it were low on gas or a charge?” Especially now that you know this information. Most people don’t know why and don’t have an answer other than maybe, “I’m too busy.” You should never, ever be too busy to drink water, the fluid of life. I get it, you’ve been not doing it for so long, so why start now. You can perform without it, you drink coffee or juice. But those drinks and your morning routine is not a recipe for optimal heath and fitness. We’ve all engaged in negative habits that don’t support the mind any body, and we’ve gotten away with it. Until you find your mind any body start to show signs of aging or degeneration like bad skin, irregular moods, bad breath, constipation, lack of energy, lack of focus, weak immune system and the list goes on and on.

So the first thing I eat or drink in the morning is WATER. My client’s are the owners of Fiji water and I am very lucky to get this water delivered to my house weekly. So I drink 1-2 bottle of water before I eat or drink anything else. Typically I wait until I urinate which is a sign to me that the water I digested has passed and cleaned me out. The water gives me energy, makes me feel great, wakes up my mind and body for the activities ahead of me and prepares my digestion. I’ve been doing this for over 15 years plus. I’m going to be turning 42 years old in a few weeks and I know without a shadow of a doubt that my consumption of water first thing in the morning and throughout my day has helped me age gracefully and kept me healthy and fit.
